A kit-kat break from karaoke singing turned into a chanced opportunity to know more about a young artist’s cunning inventions in San Isidro , Batangas. A studio at the back of an unassuming abode revealed works well-thought of. The humongous-sized chairs made from scraps from their house number one at the fairway made me feel I’m entering into a dimension of Alice in Wonderland. His first work of passion, (Gulliver’s Chair to me), was laboured for forty-days and nights as such that it becomes his most treasured possession bespoken.
Going further into the woods (as I morphed into Alice’s character in Wonderland) are pieces of craftsmanship to lo and behold, not just due to the price of each (as a half-length block tile of abstract work costs ten thousand pesos already), but the uniqueness or character of each element, said to be in limited edition. Human Anatomy has inspired Nico in his work, when Kimilicious Kim went on so in inquiring (as by the way, has been a genius in asking intelligent questions and took in earnest interest during the conversation with Nico. Ikaw na nga, Catherine Joy Estiva!).
Yes, Nico is young. He thinks Big. And when I say Big, he sees and realizes his dreams, Now, not for Later. He has the character to be patient to work his hands full, and fulfill his dream to be Best, as has been manifested in his creations. Though gifted with a family who supports him all the way, Nico takes credit for having a diligent soul, knowing that this grown-up has what it takes to be his own version of Cobonpue or our very own Capampangan-pride Tatang Pert Cruz.
Now, let me walk my way to Rockwell Club to experience more of yet to come.((;
