Five Star Chefs in the Making

03 April 2011; InterCon Manila

This happened the Sunday after Francesca Joson’s Birthday Party at the Celebrity Sports Plaza on a Friday, 01 April 2011. Whew! My adopted are certainly busy! We took the MRT to the Ayala Station to attend the weekend activity of InterContinental Manila’s First Sunday of the Month or kids. Coz the chefs of the Prince Albert Rotisserie will be conducting cooking classes for children six to twelve years of age from three pm to four-thirty pm. Dannie, my eight-year old niece, is one of them, thus she has this specially designed chef’s uniform from the IGH. That particular Sunday, the activity was captured on cam by ABS-CBN’s Korina crew. And when it was shown on national tv, family friends texted saying that they saw Dannie on the show. But what I consider more rewarding for Dannie is, the experience itself – the how to mingle with other kids, the recognition and fulfillment that yes, she can cook, and she finds it fun. My belief is to give children or kids options to determine their passions as early and just be good at it, without the added pressure to excel, though we take that as a bonus if the child has the superlative willpower to do so. My sole role is to be an ally, a driven supporter. To back them up on their quirks as long as it does not hurt. And though it may hurt, still, I know I will keep afloat and be loyal. Have them feel pain, achieve satisfaction, triumphs, as well as crashes and disappointments. Have them try any thing. Any way, isn’t us who abide by them? Allow them to learn and stand on their own happy feet. To practice: Independence. Confidence. Responsibility. Stability. Respect. Faith. I have faith in my adopted.;)
